Racing is where it’s at…special offer for club members!

I think that we can all agree that cycling is great fun…if you didn’t think so you probably wouldn’t be reading this blog post.  There is a great article in the Bicycling Australia magazine as to why, at a physiological level, we get so much out of cycling…

Speak to anyone who races and they’ll tell you that all the things in cycling that give you a ‘buzz’ are amplified when the competitive element is introduced…racing is where it’s at!  As a club we are committed to providing our members with the opportunity experience it all.

The upcoming club criterium (crit) series (see previous post) is the perfect place to give racing a try in a safe and very supportive environment!

  • Central location (Tech Park, Bentley – near Curtin Uni)
  • Safe road conditions with traffic controls and marshals in place
  • Grades to suit everyone, with a separate women’s B&C grade race and men’s grades from A to D
  • Plenty of friends to offer advice and support
  • Racing done and dusted in under an hour
  • A great location to watch some really great racing!

And the sweetner is – if you haven’t ever raced before SPR will pay your race entry fee for your first race!  If you would like to take up this offer you need to send us an email at race@southperthrouleurs.com.au.

Note: You’ll still need to purchase a race licence if you don’t have one – $33 for a 1 day licence or $44 for a 3 ride licence.  If you then decide to upgrade your licence to a racing licence this amount is deducted from the annual cost!

We couldn’t possibly make it any easier for you…take the plunge, race your bike, and take your enjoyment of cycling to the next level!

  1. Stupid question for you Andrew – can we also get a race licences on the day, or do we need to organise them somehow before hand?

  2. Andrew- could you please add me to A grade for this weekend.. will be in Dome kit as an individual rider not in the team- thanks

  3. I woul like to hav a go at C grade, I’ve neve reaced a crit before. What time does the C grade race start and how long is it for? Do we just rock up on the day to enter? Can help out during the other races if required.

    1. Hi Gareth. The C-grade race is scheduled for an 8:15am start, and is 30 minutes plus 2 laps. Entry is on the day so make sure you give yourself enough time. Don’t forget that if you don’t have a Gold ‘racing’ licence you’ll need to purchase a day licence or 3 ride pass.

On top of that, if you would like the club to pay for your race entry for your first race (just like being a sponsored rider 🙂 ) then please drop us a line on the email address listed above.

  4. 1.) is it too late to sign up.
2.) whats the profile like, pretty flat id imagine if it’s a crit and under an hour? :/ (i wouldnt be very competitive in a flat, short, hard race. Or is being competitive not the point?)

    1. It’s not too late Nicholas…

For anyone else interested in the course, it is about 1km in length and is essentially a ‘D’ shape, with Brodie-Hall Drive forming the ‘stomach’ of the ‘D’ and Sarich Way the back. We travel anti-clockwise around the circuit

There is a small rise and fall as you traverse Brodie-Hall Drive, but it isn’t much.
