spr 200km challenge

south perth rouleurs participation ride

200km challenge

  • this event is to be held on sunday the 8th august starting at coode st carpark and following a fairly standard route around the river.  see map below.
  • the ride will be split into two parts each containing 2 complete laps of the circuit.
  • after the second lap the group will stop briefly at the carpark for food and water refills.
  • start time will be 6:00am to allow for the extended time that the group will be in the saddle.
  • lights will be required for the first lap and these can be dropped off at the carpark after the second lap.
  • normal spr group ride etiquette rules apply and can be found on this website.
  • it is intended that the group will stay together for the entire ride and participates must look out for weaker riders.
  • riders that are struggling will be helped to the end of the lap but must then withdraw once back at the carpark.
  • there will be a regular regroup at the water tower after mosman park hill where mountain points for the first 5 riders will be available each lap.  however, you must finish the entire 4 laps to claim the title.
  • riders are welcome to join in for as many laps as they want, however, riders in main2/transitional group may be better off in the 100km challenge starting later.
  • this ride is only open to current members of the south perth cycle club.

100km challenge

  • at 9:00am, there will be a 100km challenge aimed at the transitional/main2 riders who may also want to be challenged.
  • this group will follow the same route and complete 2 circuits.
  • normal spr group ride etiquette rules apply and can be found on this website.
  • this ride is only open to current members of the south perth cycle club.

in both cases the roads are not closed and we will be treating this as any other club training ride.  the aim is for the groups to stay together, so no racing and keep an eye on how the entire group is travelling.

so we get an idea of how many riders we are expecting, add to the comments section with the group (200km or 100km) you are intending to ride with.

challenge yourself, it is the only way you will get better….or end up in more pain.

  1. Looking forward to the Sunday morning lie in, thinking of you lot sweating it out in yer lycras, pedalling around the river for an hour or more whilst I’m still sittingin bed with my porridge and a cuppa . . . . leisurely making my way down to Coode St for the gentlemanly start time 9.00 am, catch up for a chat with the others as we group up to start our 2 lap 100 klm tour, relaxed in the knowledge that we’ll still be half an hour or more ahead of you lot and knowng how you’ll be wringing yer hearts out as you desparately try and catch us . . . . . now thats what I call a challenge !

  2. I’m up for the 200km.. depending on what average speed you guys are going to go for.. about 30km/h is ok for me as long as the wind isn’t like this morning !

  3. I have been off the bike for a few weeks now, in fact haven’t had a descent ride since last SPR breakfast, so 200km WILL be a challenge. I’m in 🙂

  4. I’m in- 200kms sounds good 6.30 hmmm not so good… I’ll be there…

1 Question about food- do we bring some and leave it in the Carpark..??/ or maybe we could all chip and and get a load of sandwiches/ fruit delivered or something… (I know logistically it may be a hasstle- but easy for those that are riding…)

Maybe we can speak to a cafe and possibly organise something… Pete if you want me to ask my cafe friend on cost of sandwiches and friut you can let me know and I’ll get a price… Would need numbers though… ( The cafe would be MILKD as she is a good friend of mine…) Alternatively maybe a member could make them…???

Paul will be good to see ya on your bike again…

  5. jason, i was going to bring some drinks (coke & water) to the carpark and was thinking of getting a box of mars bars or something.
however, if you want to look into some type of “morning tea” and everyone can pitch in $5 or something.
numbers are whoever adds comments here saying that they will do the 200km ride.

let me know how you go.

  6. I won’t be in as the night before is the main social attraction of the rowing season.
However my love and thoughts will be with you all

  7. Is stopping to eat really a good idea ?

Perhaps the learned Iron men/women can suggest a proper food regime for 6-7 hours on the bike (eg. constant and steady intake of water, low sugar sports drinks, gel shots, lo GI snack food)

We’re talking about burning around 4800 calories to do 200 km. That’s a big lunch.

  8. :O devastated –> i’m an honorary member of south perth, its like my home away from home 😛 hahaha

  9. I’m in for 3/4 of the 200km 🙂
Will be bringing the car down to start point so you are welcome to use it as a temporary locker.
Will also be stocking it with cans of coke, feel free to dip in at the break.
    Shun

  10. I’ll be there. 4 times up Mosman Hill is a morning is a good workout. Can we do KOM points as well??

  11. I should read the fine print a bit more. Look forward to the KOM challenges, especially on the 4th lap.

  12. Sorry to complicate things, but I wish there was a 7.30 start for 150km. Would be perfect, with no lights required and chase the fast group.

Failing that, I’m in for the 100k.

  13. 100km with gentleman’s start count me in!

I’ll be getting out of bed at around 8.40…

  14. guys, if you are planning at starting at 7:30 just be aware that we won’t be stopping in at the carpark after the first lap, so you need to be waiting on mill point road.

  15. Pete I spoke to my friend that owns Milkd cafe- she is more than happy to organise sandwiches/ fruit etc, but needs to know numbers asap, 5 or 6 dollars each person….
It may be a little late to organise now as its only a couple of days away. I dont want to stuff her around by telling her there will be x amount of people and then no one turns up. Maybe we should leave it this time and people can organise their own and maybe next time…??? thoughts..???

  16. Had my first hills ride in ages today (short version) and loved it – thanks guys . . . . . I’ll have to try and negotiate more Sunday day passes . . . .
Wouldn’t it be good if we could have today’s weather organised for next Sunday – anyone got contacts with the weather man ?

  17. no worries jason, we will orgainse something for this one but look into it for the next time we run something like this. depending on how this one goes, i have some ideas for a bigger event next time. it would be more profitable for her as well. thanks for your help.

  18. I don’t like your suggestion of bigger plans.what you got install 400kms through the hills. I look forward to having uploaded a 220km ride to garmin. Nevermind the world of pain I will be in.hopefully by this time next week I will have finished 🙂

  19. Count me in for the 200km (although Carol may have ~100 people signing up for the Saturday Developers ride the day before)

  20. I’ll come along for the 200km (provided I can haul my backside out of bed). Failing that, 7.30am lol.
