adequate hydration

this saturday is going to be a hot 44 degrees with a strong easterly wind.  quite a polar difference to north america at the moment, but neither are ideal riding conditions.  as safety is a priority for our club, you need to make sure that you are prepared.  do you have adequate water??? do you know the way so you don’t get lost and have to ride extra distance???  is riding at a high pace in the heat going to put a strain on you (should you drop down a group)??? is this week a good idea to try your first saturday double???when the body is under stress, the mind is often not far behind and you can make some silly decisions that may affect the others you are riding with. make sure you look after yourself and keep an eye on the others you are riding with.  if someone doesn’t look too good, say something before they do something silly.

ride leaders – it is in the clubs best interest to develop new riders so that they ride in a safe manner.  put your name down here to ensure the club grows to its potential.  being the holidays, some of the regulars may be away, here is a chance for you to have a go at leading a group.  the club needs you even more to represent it in ensuring the ride etiquette is followed.

memberships – on the 31st dec 2013 we hit a maximum of 430 club members.  the next day i checked and we had lost 184 down to 244.  there are basically 2 types of memberships, recreational and racing.  the rec licences are on a rolling 3 monthly year and expire depending on which quarter you bought it in.  race licences, however, expire at the end of the calendar year.  don’t forget to renew your licence so you can belong to the club.  and you kind of need it if you want to race.  check your licence card for your expiry date.  more info on memberships can be found here.

cyclesafe wa – every cyclist has the right to ride safely on the road.  cyclesafe wa is looking for 10,000 signatures so that it can present a petition in the legislative council to improve cyclist safety.  check out the previous post, but make sure you sign the petition on saturday after the ride.

national road championships – the nationals are on this weekend and spr’s own jonathan bolton will be competing on sunday against australia’s best.  the event will be televised on sbs and we have organised a public viewing at the vic in subiaco, starting at 1pm.  more info on the facebook event page.

bike skills course – check out the previous post about the bike skills course being held in feb.  also checkout the testimonials in the comments of that post for some great feedback.

smashfest race 04 – more racing again this sunday with race 03 of the 4 race series.  add your name to the comments on the previous post if you can help out on the day.

ride routes – on sunday there will be no earlybird ride, but the main ride will leave at 6:00am.  this allows the groups to get out and back to help out with the criterium when they get return.
