it’s beginning to smell a lot like christmas.  so close in fact that the ride routes are a day early so i actually get a break tomorrow and not have to worry about it.  spr has had a very successful year and we appreciate the efforts that people have made to achieve this.  we are a volunteer organisation so we rely heavily on the membership to get events off the ground.  at the end of the day, we put on events for our members and to attract new members.  we are currently sitting at 437 members and still growing.  we look forward to 2015 and another successful year of growth in both numbers and events.  we hope that you get some nice bike related christmas presents and please, stay safe over the holiday period.

ride leaders – support the club and help us become ambassadors for the sport in the public eye. put your name down as ride leader to ensure that the group ride is safe and organised. sign up here.

Allused Logo (2)ride leaders sponsorship – this months ride leaders are proudly sponsored by AllusedCommercial Equipment.   please see the previous post detailing what they provide and we thank them for encouraging our members to step up as ride leaders.  ride leaders will receive a $10 Dome voucher to be used after the saturday ride.  if you have a business that you want to promote to our members, check out the previous post to both promote your business and help out the club.

ride etiquette – unfortunately there have been a few incidents that our group have been involved in lately that have brought spr to peoples attention for the wrong reasons.  from not stopping as the lights are changing to merging with traffic without looking, and aggressively passing other riders then cutting back in.  we have an etiquette guide that we recommend new riders read before comeing out.  it seems that some more experienced riders may also need to have a quick look to refresh their knowledge.  click here now.

beginner ladies session – at the end of january, spr will be holding the next free ladies beginners skills session.  this is aimed at ladies that have been reluctant to take that next step and come out riding in a group environment.  if you know someone like that, please forward this onto them and invite them along.  leigh and a couple of the other experienced ladies will take them through a number of riding skills and will finish up at the coffee shop for a brew.  mroe info can be found on the previous post.

thursday night crit training – thursday evening crit training is now suspended as there are midweek twilight crits being held at the showgrounds.  we will reassess in feb.

new 2015 spr cycle kit – sorry for the delay in ordering the new kit.  there were a few issues with the online ordering that we needed to get sorted out before we went live.  hopefully it will be up soon, please keep an eye on the blog for links once they are up. see the previous post for more details.

ride routes – lots of rides available over the next few days.  for more incentive, sign up to the rapha festive 500 on strava.  can you smash out 500kms between christmas eve and new years eve?  more info here.

  1. Looking to join for the Sunday bunch rides. At what pace will the different rides go? Is “tranny” short for transitional as I can see that pace is posted as 28km but am hoping to confirm that as well as the pace for the short and long routes.

    Thanks!

    1. Yes, tranny is transitional. The pace is variable, groups will regroup just after major climbs (transitional dont do a hills ride). I average about 30-31km/h on the hills rides, however that’s with about 45km on my own.

  2. is anyone else having problems getting the link to download the ride route to their garmin. I have not been able to see the link for a few weeks now.

    1. try now, liam. garmin have changed things around with how they transfer the data to the devices, but haven’t fixed it up in their course map section. i have to add the links manually to each ride route.
