A growing number of SPR members like to make the pilgrimage to Adelaide each January for the festival of cycling that is the TDU – Tour Down Under.
With the support of the SA community it has steadily grown to be a massive 9 day festival of ProTour cycling, elite women’s racing, a local criterium series, cyclo-tourism events, riding, eating, shopping, a little athlete-stalking and much merriment.
The template for the event has worked well since its’ inception with the TDU being held in the week prior to Australia Day (26th Jan), but sadly this is set to change with the UCI flagging changes to the event date to shorten the ProTour race calendar.
The TDU may be held in February/March or November/December. Dates for 2016 and future TDU’s have not yet been confirmed and released.
It is possible that the precursor to the TDU, the People’s Choice Criterium will be held on Sunday 17/01/2016 and the TDU held Tuesday 19/01 – Sunday 24/01/2016. This is TBC.
Be advised : Airlines including QANTAS and Adelaide Apartments Hotels have now released their rates and are now taking bookings for these dates. They are filling up fast. If you are considering going to the TDU in 2016 you should consider making your arrangements soon but retain flexibility in your bookings.
