I have been a ride leader for Main 2 and 3 about half a dozen times. It is not so much that I put my name down on the spread sheet to be a leader, rather that I am a regular Saturday morning rider and I guess I’m just there. Somebody should do the role and most times I’m willing. I don’t mind too much really, but I must admit that I feel a tad inadequate. While I am fine with group riding etiquette, leading a group is different. Talking with more experienced riders I realise that I have a lot to learn when it comes to when to ride single file or to roll from outside in or inside out, keeping the group together and other practices. This got me thinking that I could do with some training to be a leader. And then I wondered if others who like me have only led a few times or who may be interested in ride leading might might not feel the same and be interested in some ‘professional learning’. I could of course be a lone voice in the wheelderness which is fine; I will just keep pestering others for advice. However, if there is anyone who feels that a ride leader workshop or two would be worthwhile please reply to this post and I will follow up with one of the committee members (after the AGM).
