BWA Cyclo Sportif – Go Team Green!!!

Well the time has come to fly the club flag at the BWA Swan Valley Cyclo Sportif this coming Sunday.  SPR will dominate on the day… having a record number of nearly 70 riders across 8 teams…yee ha!

Schedule for the day

6:45am Registrations open – register any time between then and the rider briefing

7:30am Rider briefing – essential for Ride Leaders to attend

7:45am Club photo – all SPR folk to meet at the club tent inside the rear door of the Speed Dome for a group shot

8:00am Head to start line – teams ride 8kms to the start line at Herne Hill Primary School

11:30am onwards – lunch and Grand Prix

SPR jerseys – A number of people are without the new club kit.  If you happen to have a spare jersey, could you kindly bring it on the day (pop name on the inside tag).  Riders will return the jersey to the club tent for your collection following the ride.

For the ride – remember to bring sufficient food and water to get you through the ride.

Ride Leaders – please read BWA’s information at http://www.bwa.org.au/events/178/ so you’re aware of your responsibilities on the day.

Good luck everyone!

  • SPR 7 has 2 spots
  • SPR 8 has 4 spots

Stayed tuned for a post later in the week letting everyone know where and when to meet so that we can get a group photo…

BWA Swan Valley Sportif – Time to sign up!!

Hi All

Well we’ve had a fantastic response to people wanting to fly the club’s flag at the BWA Swan Valley Sportif on Sunday, 30th June 2013…whoo hoo!  We still have a few places left should people want to take part.  Check the previous post for where there are gaps…

It’s now time for people to register for their respective teams (see instructions below) on the BWA website.

  • Go to webpage http://www.bwa.org.au/
  • Click on the ‘register now’ button on the Livelighter Cyclo Sportif – Swan Valley left-hand side bar
  • Click on the ‘join an existing team’ (the team names begin with the ‘SPR’)
  • Type in your details, payment etc…

Please note some Team Leaders are yet to register their teams so it may pay to check this across the weekend.

Further details about the day will be posted on the blog closer to the event.  Please stay tuned as it is hoped that a club photo and team shots can be taken.

It is expected that people will wear current club kit.  If you’re going to have difficulty with that then please let me know so arrangements can be made.

It’s going to be a great day with a sea of SPR green out on the road!!!

Cheers

Amanda

Chance to meet a champion!

Come along and meet champion cyclist Sarah Kent.

When:  Sunday July 7th

Time: 12.30pm to 2.30pm

Venue:  Dome Westralia Square, Toby has offered some of his cafe space to get this project up and running so why not come for lunch too.

Cost:  $5 per person

Sarah will talk to about her cycling trip where she navigated 1500 kilometres of terrain through four African countries, with just a few camping supplies on the back of a bicycle.   It’s far from the racing track which saw Sarah Kent become a world champion but she says it proved to be one of the most rewarding challenges in her career to date.

Sarah’s goal was to raise $13,000 to buy 100 new bikes for children who have no other mode of transport to access basics such as schools, hospitals and water supplies in their local community.

Sarah has been competing at a high level of cycling on the track and road for nearly ten years. Ask her any cycling related questions and get your photo taken with Sarah.

If you’re interested in attending then please email Cathi Dixon at catherine.dixon@hotmail.com

Number are limited so pedal pedal pedal and let Cathi know ASAP.

UWCT Qualifiers

As el Prez said it’s been a BIG weekend for the club.  Many members of the club had a crack at qualifying to wear the green and gold by getting involved with the UWCT qualifying events.  Friday saw a 20km time trial around Rottnest Island and Sunday featured a 112km road race at Perry Lakes.  The goal for those racing was to qualify to compete in the UWCT World Championship Final in Trento, Italy later this year.

There were loads of individual efforts that can be recognised but the biggest congratulation needs to go to the club again.  SPR was the best represented club/team/group in terms of competitors, spectators, photographers, water crew etc…the event showcasing the club’s camaraderie.

Special thanks needs to go to Nathan Rzepecki and Rhian for giving up their Sunday sleep-in to set up and man the SPR tent right throughout the day.

Congratulations to all those that competed and kudos to all of you that are reading this post knowing that you supported these competitors in some way to pursue a dream.
