THE NEXT KIT ORDER

The next kit order will close at midnight on Monday 1 July and arrive in mid August.  Orders are made via the Champion Systems online ordering system.  Advice on how to order can be found on the Team Kit section of this website.  SPR kit wishlist_June2013 provides a summary of current kit options.  Don’t forget only financial SPR (South Perth Cycle Club) members can be seen around town in our kit…

SPR fire sale – everything must go!!!

i have just been though all the old stock that we have accumulated over the years and have added it to the online shop.  if you are after a spare jersey, or just one to make you feel that you are part of spr till the new kit arrives, then head to the shop now.  stock is limited but everything has been greatly discounted.  hopefully the system can look after the stock levels and remove products once they have sold out.  everything is available immediately and will need to be picked up this coming week.

everything is brand new and still has tags on.  there are a number jerseys from the sizing kit, but that is the extend of wear that any of them have seen.  head over to the shop to see just what we have uncovered.

while going through the boxes, i also found a few items that have not been collected.  the following people need to collect their stuff –

  • David Posel
  • Cade Zulsdorf
  • Paul Arnold
  • Christophe Borrel Ducroz
  • Russell Lagden
  • Darren McIvor

Kit orders open at the SPR shop

You can now visit the SPR online shop to purchase your new kit.  See the 2013 SPR Kit section.  Orders close midnight, Saturday 8 December (next Saturday).

If you are ordering triathlon attire, please note the images in the store are the standard Champion System images.  All triathlon attire will come in the SPR brand, similar to the jersey and knicks.

How do I become a member?

Visit our memberships page to join and found out about the range of membership options available

Is there a limit to how many discounted jerseys and knicks I can purchase in this initial order?

No, as long as you are a member you may purchase as many items of kit (for yourself) as you like.

What if my children want to dress up just like their Dad?

We have added a children’s jersey to the list of available jerseys .  Children under 12 years of age don’t have to be an SPR member to wear the SPR jersey…as long as Mum or Dad are.

When will the next kit order occur?

There will be another kit order open in February with delivery in March/April.  The full range of items will be available (and more), but prices will not be discounted.

Remind me, what are the different types of jerseys?

There are three jersey types and a range of jersey cuts. Refer to the sizing charts to see which will fit you best.

What if I’m as tall as Greipel or Vansummerren and I would like my knicks a little longer?

It is possible to have your knicks made slightly longer.  After you’ve placed your order, email kit@southperthrouleurs.com.au and we can arrange.

When can I try on the sizing kit?

The sizing kit will be available at Dome this Saturday (8 December) from 7:30am to 10:30am.  This is a bit earlier than last week to assist those members who dedicate Saturday mornings to junior sport.

who are you? – a question of membership

we are currently in the process of setting up the next run of spr kit and a number of points have been raised in relation to feedback from the club.  this feedback came as part of the survey and also from blog discussion dating back to this time last year.

the discussion revolves around should the kit be for members only.

the club has always tried to be as inclusive as possible.  you don’t need to be racing to ride with us, don’t need a $10k bike, don’t need to have ridden for 10+ years.  none of this will change.  people can still join in our rides and if they like it, we recommend that they join the club, in a sense to give a bit back for the service we put on.  however, if you are a member, what really identifies you from anyone else in the group.

i remember talking to a fairly new member of the club once after they received their new kit.  they had been riding with us for a while and had been a member for a few months, but didn’t really feel like they were part of it until they were wearing the kit.  it felt like they belonged to something.

now how can you belong to something if you don’t actually belong to it.  currently, there are quite a few people out there that are wearing the kit that are not current members of spr.  that is fine.  we made a call at the time that the promotion of the club to the wider public was important to the growth of the club.  we currently have 280 members and i hope to crack 300 next year.  we have a ride on every day of the week and our exposure across perth is enormous.  even people that i work with that don’t ride can identify the club riders.

this exposure also means a lot more responsibility.  there have been many discussions on the blog about peoples perceptions about cyclists especially when wearing the club kit and how it reflects back on the club.  your wearing of the club kit signifies that you are part of the club, being part of the club means that you will act responsibly when out on the roads.

so, there was quite a big discussion at our last committee meeting in relation to all this and it was decided that starting with the new 2013 run, kit will only be available to members only.  this does not limit our ability to offer training rides to new riders or change our daily operation in any way.  all it means is that next kit order, if you get online and order something through our shop, you will be refunded if you are not a current financial member.

feedback welcome.

spr accessories – changes

well the gloves and booties order has been pretty bad, really.  we don’t have close to enough to really fulfill an order.  i was wondering whether all the discussion about designs and colours for next year kit may have cooled some people on getting gloves that match the current kit.  it would not matter that much as our club colours are green, black and white, so any redesign will still need to incorporate those colours.

however, i am also aware that people do also wear other kits besides the club kit and as such, green branded gloves may not go that well.  so in an effort to provide gloves and booties that complement the current and future kits, as well as allowing you to show your club allegiance while wearing that rapha hipster kit, the suggestion has been made to neutralise the colours and provide all black accessories.

this means that all styles of gloves and booties will be plain black with the basic spr logo on them.  this also allows you to wear a trade team kit and still show you belong to spr.

anyone that has already ordered that is not happy with this, can request a refund (but as it stands, i will have to give you one anyway due to lack of interest).  the designs on the orders page will change in due course, but hopefully this will generate a few more orders.  order page can be found here.

spr kit accessories

ok, we have finalised the kit accessories and the orders are now open.  there are three types of gloves (summer, spring & winter) and two types of booties (lycra & windtex).  there will be some samples available to try on at the coffeeshop on saturday and you can estimate your size from what is available.  these are a different style than the last accessories order we did, so the sizes may be a bit different.

head over to the team kit page and put your order in now.  drink bottles and spr t-shirts are also still available.  orders will close in about 2 weeks.

kit orders are open

the latest order for the kit is now open.  we will just be sticking to the current design and the current manufacturer for now and will assess things at the end of the year when the current sponsors contract comes to an end.

orders can be found here or through the tabs at the top of the website.  orders will be open for a few weeks and i will try to get the sizing kit down to the coffee shop on the next few saturdays so you can make sure you get the correct fit.

black and white

there has been a bit of discussion lately about the design of the kit that we currently have.  the two main comments that i have heard are that it is too dark and therefore unsafe for early morning riding and that it is too dark and therefore too hot during summer.  well we have had the design going for over a year now and so have lived through a summer and winter.  the suggestion is to do an alternative white version of the jersey.

i am looking for some feedback (both positive and negative) on our current design.  the intention was originally not to change the current design till the end of 2012 when all the sponsors come to the end of their contract.  this mock up was just a quick and dirty and isn’t a final product by any standards.

give me feedback asap, as this discussion is essentially delaying the next kit order.  my view is…..well i will let you discuss it first.

spr club kit – orders are open

well after a few technical difficulties, the kit order is now open.  you can access it via the menu below the header (team kit – cannibal), via the link here or the “visit the shop” link that appears after you login.

it was interesting to see the discussion about whether membership was a prerequisite for kit ownership.  my opinion is….well my opinion doesn’t really matter.  i put up some points for both sides of the argument and some people expanded on these points quite passionately.  it’s always a worry when mrs prez decides to weigh in on a discussion but you can see that people feel strongly about it.

so, what are we going to do.  nothing.  there are valid points for both sides of the argument and i think that the club can basically set it’s own expectations without forcing people one way or another.  the general consensus is that you should be a member to wear the kit.  some people said that they would not dream of wearing it without being a member.  well now they can get both a new kit and join up as a member.

at the end of the day people want to feel like they belong to something.  this is why we have been the fastest growing and biggest club in perth (cycling australia affiliated road club).  we have given something for people to belong to and i feel that most people get something out of what we do.  so, no, we are not going to force people to join the club but we would strongly encourage people to consider it as then they can truly feel like they are part of something.

orders are taken though the site and you will need to login or register on the website before you can purchase.  once your cart is full, you will proceed to payment via paypal.  this allows you to pay buy either a credit card or your own paypal account.

this is the summer kit order and as such jackets and long sleeve jerseys are not available.  the arm warmers that are on the ordering page are summer arms only and are not the roubaix lined winter ones.  we will do a winter order in march before the cold winds start a blowin’.

a question of membership…

so we had this little discussion last year, but it never really amounted to anything.  before we start the kit order, i would like to kick it off again.

the question is – should the spr kit be only available to spr members???

the pros –

  • you should only be wearing a club kit if you are part of the club
  • we have more control over who is representing our club (in public and races)
  • it will force people to become members

the cons –

  • more people wearing the kit means more exposure for the club
  • the roots of our club was never forcing people to pay to ride with us
  • is it a question of how much people can afford???
  • it will force people to become members

please add your feedback to the comments below.  you are the club, let us know how this should play out.
